Zombie Detection

A "zombie" bot is a process that has deadlocked or frozen its event loop, while Discord still displays it as "Online" via the gateway connection.

Important Operational Principle

Zombie status means Monitor has stopped receiving application-level telemetry. Discord may still report the bot as online. Zombie status is informational and does NOT trigger Discord outage channel alerts. Actual outage notifications remain strictly governed by Discord presence and your server grace period.

The 5 Health States

HEALTHY

Heartbeat received within the last 1.5× expected intervals.

0–90 seconds for a 60s interval.
LATE

Heartbeat is overdue but has not crossed the zombie threshold (> 1.5× and <= 2.5× interval).

90–150 seconds for a 60s interval.
ZOMBIE

Heartbeat has exceeded the zombie threshold (> 2.5× expected interval). Process or task is frozen.

150+ seconds for a 60s interval.
UNKNOWN

A valid token exists, but no heartbeat has ever been received yet.

Token created; waiting for bot startup.
DISABLED

Heartbeat telemetry is disabled because there is no active token or it was revoked.

Telemetry not configured or token revoked.

Timing Formulas

Monitor calculates states dynamically based on the interval_seconds sent by your bot:

HEALTHY: elapsed <= 1.5 * interval_seconds

LATE: elapsed > 1.5 * interval_seconds and elapsed <= 2.5 * interval_seconds

ZOMBIE: elapsed > 2.5 * interval_seconds
